STAGE 3 MATCH SUMMARY

Stage 3 - Division 1

Marist Light

Marist Light 78, defeated by WCMCC, 7/82.

Batting: Will Spencer 15, Jack Frawley 14, Liam Nicolson 13.

Bowling: Xander Denny 3/10, Patrick Bartlett 1/12, Liam Nicolson 1/19.

Isaac Tarrant (wk) 2 catches, Jack Feawley and Henry Hyson 1 catch each.

Stage 3 - Division 1

Marist Light

Marist Light (7/109) defeated by Wests (1/112)

Batting: Jack Frawley 34 (ret), Oliver Wilson 17no, Liam Nicolson 13

Bowling: Henry Hyson 1/18

It's a quirk of this Div 1 draw that we were once again playing the top-of-the-table Wests. Captain Henry won another toss and decided to have a bat. Hugo and Paddy got us off to a solid start against good bowling, before Paddy unfortunately had to retire hurt. Nico and Jack put on a strong 34-run partnership before Nico was caught. Jack went on the attack, hitting 4 x 4's before retiring for a well-made 34. After drinks, the middle order struggled against Wests' dual spin attack. Oliver and stand-in player Noah Maguire put on another 25 run partnership, getting us to 7/109 at the end of our 30 overs.

Defending a relatively low total against a top team was always going to be a difficult ask. Unfortunately we weren't at our best with the bowling and some dropped catches contributed to Wests scoring freely. Henry was the pick of the bowlers taking the only wicket. Thanks to Noah for filling in.

Stage 3 - Division 1

Marist Light

Marist Light (6/127) defeated Marist Royal (6/124)

Batting: LJ Hugo 38*, Isaac Tarrant 27, Oliver Wilson 20, Will Spencer 15, Hugo Foley 11.

Bowling: Jack Frawley 2/28, Xander Denny 1/12, Will Spencer 1/19, Christian Honan 1/19, Henry Hyson 1/19.

In a great afternoon local derby at Mawson oval Marist Light secured a first Div 1 and a thrilling victory over Marist Royal, winning by 3 runs in a closely contested match. Isaac Tarrant was given his opportunity to captain the light boys and he quickly won the toss and chose to bowl, setting the stage for a strong start. Marist Light bowlers delivered early breakthroughs, keeping the Royal batting lineup in check. Jack Frawley led the attack with two wickets, while Xander Denny, Will Spencer, Christian Honan, and Henry Hyson each claimed one. The fielding was sharp, highlighted by a brilliant catch from Hugo Foley at point, as Marist Light restricted Marist Royal to 6 for 124 off their 20 overs.

Chasing 125, Marist Light got off to a steady start with Tarrant and Spencer rotating the strike well. However, quick wickets and mounting pressure saw Light begin to fall behind the required run rate. Despite solid contributions from Olie Wilson, Hugo Foley and Nico, they Light found themselves in trouble chasing runs.

ENTER LJ HUGO

With 35 runs needed from the final three overs LH strode to the crease at Light 5/90, LJ unleashed a breathtaking counterattack, smashing 38* off just 16 deliveries, including four boundaries and two massive sixes. His heroics guided Marist Light to 6 for 127, securing a dramatic win.

LJ Hugo was deservedly named Light Player of the Match for his match-winning innings. LJ has threatened to do that to an opposition all season and it was tremendous to see him deliver on the local stage.

This victory was a testament to the team’s resilience, marking a fitting win in a challenging, yet rewarding season. Starting in Division 2 and earning promotion to Division 1, Marist Light has played well, with many close losses and finally claimed a well-earned win over their school rivals. A fantastic effort from the entire squad, much to the delight of coaches and parents alike.

Stage 3 - Division 1

Marist Royal

T20 - Marist Royal 4/108 beat Radford 8/104

Batting Archie Brown 29 (retired), Preston 24, Ben Callaway 21

Bowling Keyaan Darji 2/9 (4 overs), Lachie Miller 1/3 (1 over) Harry Whalen 1/9 (3 overs)

The Marist boys won the toss, and skipper Loges was happy to bat first on the uncharacteristic slow Marist out field. Unfortunately Lachie went early, but Preston built solid partnerships with both Benny and Archie to contribute the bulk of the Marist score, the last overs left Kalindu, Loges and Cameron to add some valuable runs. The brains trusts were non-committal if the 108 total would be enough, but coach Brown had faith the boys had the talent to defend the total.

Opening the bowling, Harry struck in the first over, care of a classy catch by wicketkeeper Preston. The start the team needed, Breno, Keyaan and Logan all bowled tight to keep the runs at a minimum. Keyaan being rewarded with 2 wickets, the best when he bowled former Marist student Kian with a wrong-un. At the drinks break the Radford boys had dropped behind on the required run rate, but with wickets in hand and some classy bats to come the boys knew the game was far from over. More restrictive bowling from Kalindu, Lachie and Benny squeezed the life out of their innings. The run rate creeping slowly from 10 an over out to 20 off the last over. The last over had everyone on the edge of their seats, including those watching at home via the ball by ball description on PlayHQ. Skipper Loges bowling the final over with an inform Radford batsman on strike willing to throw everything at the win. Loges remained calm and restricted them to 15 to just fall in for the win. Well done Marist!

Stage 3 - Division 1

Marist Royal

Marist Royal (3/197) defeated ANU Owls (8/150)

Batting: Ben Callaway (60 n.o.), Archie Brown (41 n.o.), Lachlan Miller (37).

Bowling: Ben Callaway (3 for 10)

Marist Royal started 2025 strongly with a convincing win over ANU Owls. The game featured some great opening and middle order batting supported by disciplined fielding and bowling from our boys. Ben Callaway in particular had a busy morning, retiring not out for 60 before taking 3 wickets as bowler.

Openers Lachlan and Preston set the tone of the batting innings after Marist won the toss and chose to bat. They took advantage of any short balls and gaps in the field to score quickly, scoring almost as many runs as balls delivered.

Preston fell first for 27 off 32 balls, including 3 fours and a six. Lachlan continued to build the innings, scoring 37 from 41 balls, with 6 fours. The middle order took over from there, adding even more pace to the innings. Ben’s rapid-fire 60 included 8 fours and a six, Archie took 41 off 45 balls, and Keyaan stepped up with an impressive 26 off 18 balls. All 3 retired not out, with Marist Royal finishing with a total just shy of 200 runs.

ANU Owls batted out their full 30 overs, but never quite managed the run rate needed to match Marist Royal. Our boys were fast and accurate in the field, intercepting balls before the boundaries and limiting the opposition batters’ options. They showed the depth of their bowling talent, with 6 boys claiming wickets as bowlers: Logan, Nick, Patrick, Lachlan and Kayeen all took one apiece, with Ben adding 3 to the haul. Our ever vigilant wickie Preston delivered 2 stumpings and a catch, and Logan also took a catch.

The win was all the sweeter for Logan and Archie, named captain and vice-captain respectively for the rest of the season. Thanks to coach Cade, manager Maylin, umpire Dave and scorer Alana for their work behind the scenes so the boys could perform at their best.

Stage 3 - Division 1

Marist Royal

Marist Royal (7/100) defeated by Radford Buzzards (2/103)

Batting: Preston Singer (28), Kalindu Karunaratne (22)

Bowling: Harry Whalen (1 for 16)

Notable player: Wickie Lucas Clark for taking a great catch and combining with Lachlan Miller for a runout.

Match report:

Marist Royal began their rematch with Radford Buzzards in the final game of the season with high hopes. The boys started well on their home ground, after they won the toss and elected to bat. But they lost momentum as the game progressed, allowing Radford to chase down their total and take the win.

Marist Royal took to the crease with confidence early on. Preston (28) and Kalindu (22) were the highest scorers, just as they were the previous Saturday. Together with Lachlan (12), they went about building runs for the team at a measured, steady pace against a keen opposition. Radford broke through with a catch just before the break and followed up with a series of quick wickets after. The run rate slowed as the boys tried to stabilise the innings in the face of good bowling and fielding. Marist finished with a modest tally of 100.

Our innings in the field also began stronger than it finished. Marist claimed 2 Radford wickets by the 10th over with consistent, economical bowling. Fill-in wickie Lucas well and truly earned his keep, taking a great catch off Harry’s bowling and combining with Lachlan to achieve a run out. But the boys struggled to make further inroads, despite their efforts in the rising heat. Radford gradually upped up their run rate and reached their target with overs to spare.

While it wasn’t the result the boys wanted, they took it on the chin and deserve credit for doing so with the same good sportsmanship they’ve shown all season. The game saw Archie join the list of injured alongside Dom and Griffin, but he showed real spirit (and a high pain threshold) to make it through the batting innings. Thanks to Lucas, Liam and Jack for stepping up as subs, to Paul and Dave for umpiring, and MayLin for scoring on the day.

Manager MayLin deserves a trophy of her own for managing the ever-changing rosters and many call outs for subs throughout the season. Coach Cade has our sincere thanks for training, leading, cajoling, mentoring and caring for the boys each week. They’ve learned more than just cricket and have some great post-season reading to keep them going till next summer, thanks to Cade’s very generous book gifts to the boys.

Stage 3 - Division 1

Marist Sky

Marist Sky, 7/218, defeated Grammar, 137.

Batting: Jackson Fosberry 48*, Adhavan Sundar 39, Luca Ciocca-Marchant 26.

Bowling: Vishnu Vaijaiyanthan 4/36, Manveer Singh 1/6.

Luca Ciocca-Marchant and Adhavan Sundar 2 catches each.

Stage 3 - Division 1

Marist Royal

Marist Royal, 6/189 defeated Grammar 9/165

Batting: Preston Singer 50*, Lachlan Miller 37*, Keyaan Darji 28.

Bowling: Nick Brennan 2/13.

Notable mention: Archie Brown 3 catches as WK and 3 ROA

A thumping pre-Christmas victory for the Royals boys last Saturday, with the team setting CGS a target of 190 to win for the loss of 6 wickets. Openers Lachie Miller (37 from 45) and Logan McCrae set a strong foundation, with Keyaan Daarji (28) and Patrick Geddes (18) kicking things along. Preston Singer blasted 50 from 45 balls, with his half ton coming up on the last ball of the innings. Grammar had a very capable team, but suffered 3 early losses (1 for 6, 2 for 6 and 3 for 11). Nick Brennan took two of these and Dom Shoebridge the other. A cheeky one-handed caught and bowled from Keyaan was casual artistry. But the standout for Marist in the field was wicketkeeper Archie Brown – three catches and assisted 3 run outs, with his involvement in 6 wickets reminding the cheering crowd of Rod Marsh’s 6 wicket single innings haul against England at the GABBA back in ’82. Champagne cricket from the boys that made even super coach Cade Brown smile.

Stage 3 - Division 1

Marist Royal

Marist Royal (10/109) defeated by Radford Kites (10/122)

Bowlers: Harry Whalen 3/16, Lachlan Miller 2/9

Batting: Preston Singer (28)

Notable player: Nick Brennan for 3 catches and batting while injured

Marist Royal played for a place in the semi-finals on Saturday but went down to a disciplined side from Radford. Our bowling and fielding kept Radford to a manageable total, denying the opposition their full 30 overs. But our batting fell short on the day, despite the boys’ strong performance with the bat across the season as a whole.

Radford won the toss and elected to bat first. They set up a solid opening partnership, broken in the 7th over by Kalindu’s bowling. Then our spinners got to work. A run of quick wickets after tea break left Radford near collapse, but their stubborn tailenders held on till the 29th over.

Bowler Harry topped the wicket tally with an impressive 3 for 16 off 5 overs. Lachie wasn’t far behind, with 2 wickets for 9 off 3 overs. Kayeen and Archie also claimed a wicket a piece. The bowlers were helped by fast, accurate fielding, with some superb catches in the mix. Nick and Kayeen each took 3 catches, with wickie Preston and Noah adding their own to the growing total. Harry, Patrick and Lachie contributed to runouts, keeping the pressure on and the ball away from the boundaries.

When it came our turn to bat, we got off to a shaky start. The boys struggled to build the partnerships needed to break through Radford’s tight defences in the field. They matched Radford’s run rate and were closing on the opposition total a few overs out from the finish. But the steady fall of wickets eventually caught up with them.

Preston (28) and Kalindu (18 off 17 balls) offered the most resistance, with Archie, Keyaan and Logan also reaching double figures. Nick played on injured, despite hits to the leg while fielding and batting. Kayeen literally broke his bat trying to turn the game Marist’s way. And Dominic and Griffin once again fronted up to watch their team mates play when they couldn’t due to injury. Moments like these better reflected the boys’ team spirit and grit over the season than the final score on Saturday.

The boys have one more game to play this coming weekend against Marist Sky on their home ground. It’ll be a good way to celebrate the season with some fun and friendly rivalry with their Marist mates. Thanks again to coach Cade, manager Maylin, umpire Paul and scorer CK for all their work on the day and the season.

Stage 3 - Division 1

Marist Royal

Marist Royal (7/119) defeated GJCC (7/118)

Batting: Keyaan Darji 34*

Bowling: Lachlan Miller 2/23

Fielding: Archie Brown 2 catches, 2 stumpings

After a series of storms and an unpredictable forecast, we were pleasantly surprised that Saturday’s match was still on. The conditions were challenging, but the boys were ready to take on whatever came their way.

We lost the toss and were sent into the field, but the bowlers were up for the task. The opening spell was tight and disciplined, with no room for the batters to get comfortable. However, it wasn’t until the 10th over that the first breakthrough arrived, courtesy of some brilliant fielding by Ben Callaway. It was good weather for ducks, as mutiple batters were sent back, leaving Lachie Miller stranded on a hat-trick. GJCC's innings ended at 7/118 — a target that seemed achievable, or so we thought...

Marist's reply started with a bang, as Nick Brennan launched a massive six. However, disaster struck two balls later, with Brennan getting out. Much like in the first innings, the bowlers were in control, and ducks began to pile up — 7 in total for the match.

The turning point came when Harry Whalen joined Keyann Darji at the crease. Together, they steadied the ship and shifted the momentum back in our favour. Their solid partnership brought confidence back to the team, and from that point onward, it was smooth sailing.

Ben and Lachie were there to finish the job, guiding the team to a comfortable win against quality opposition.

Next up, we face Radford, where we’ll be hoping for Lachie to complete his hat-trick. The boys are enjoying their cricket, and are all looking forward to the next challenge.

Thanks to CK for scoring, Mark for umpiring and a special shoutout to Lucas Clark for filling-in this week.

Stage 3 - Division 1

Marist Light

Marist 10/98 defeated by TVJCC Eagles 9/100

Batting: Liam Nicolson 26, Oliver Wilson 19, LJ Hugo 16

Bowling: Christian Honan 5/27, Henry Hyson 2/7, Mathew Polgolla 1/9, Xander Denny 1/12

Marist Light won the toss and decided to bat first. We got off to a shaky start losing 5/23 before Nico and LJ combined for a strong partnership. LJ was dismissed for a run-a-ball 16 trying to lift the run rate. Oliver joined Nicoto to steady the ship before Nico was dismissed for a well-made 26. Oliver, Matt, Xander and Christian batted out the overs, before being dismissed for 98 in the final over.

Matt and Henry combined for an early wicket with the ball. A big 2nd wicket partnership saw Tuggers pass 50 and it felt like we might finish early. Cue Christian Honan. Christian steamed in either side of the drinks break, taking five wickets - two caught behind by Isaac, one bowled and one LBW. His fifth wicket came courtesy of Hugo, who took a fantastic catch at backward square leg, and the boys were fired up. Xander returned to the attack with immediate success and when Captain Henry picked up two wickets himself, Tuggeranong were looking shaky at 9/88, still 11 runs short.

Ultimately, Marist Light was a few runs short and Tuggeranong limped over the line, but not before a big scare. CONGRATS to Christian, picking up the match ball for his 5-fer. All the boys should be proud of their performance. A win is not far away.

Stage 3 - Division 1

Marist Sky

Marist Sky, 1/100, defeated ANU Owls, 7/99.

Stage 3 - Division 1

Marist Sky

Marist Royal

Marist Royal, 108, defeated by Radford Buzzards, 6/138.

Marist Light

Marist Light 8/197 defeated WCMCC Green 9/143

Batting: Hugo Foley 37, Jack Frawley 34

Bowling: Shervin Polgolla 1/8, LJ Hugo 1/9, Christian Honan 1/10, Xander Denny 1/16,

Marist Light put in a great effort all round, especially in the field, to keep WCMCC 54 runs under the Marist Light total of 197. It was an excellent result for Marist Light wining their final game for the season in Div 1. Batting first, Marist Light kept the runs ticking over with Hugo Foley keeping the run rate going at almost a run a ball and then Jack Frawley going at more than a run a ball, putting his stamp on the game pushing the total up to a respectable 197.

It was excellent bowling and fielding by everyone in the team. WCMCC could not get their chase going with Marist Light putting pressure on with run-outs and solid catching. Bowling was tight with excellent figures from the whole bowling attack.

A great finish to the season and the players of Marist Light should be proud of how they harnessed their abilities, backed themselves and finished strong. Marist Light have some real latent talent and can hopefully bring it again with some strong performances in the 2025/26 season for the Marist Cricket Club. Congratulations to Scott Foley for a great coaching effort bringing the talent out of the boys in the Div 1 comp.

Stage 3 - Division 1

Marist Sky

Marist Sky, 7/154, defeated Ginninderra, 7/115.

Stage 3 - Division 2

Marist Cobalt

Marist Cobalt (7/137) defeated by Marist Steele (8/174)

Batting: Flynn Hurley 30 (28), Lucas Clifford 21 (rtno)

Bowling: Will Charles 2/18, Isaac Sladic 1/9,

Notable player: Jonathan Abraham for his smashing six, one wicket, one catch, earning Cobalt Man of the Match.

Team Cobalt vs Team Steele, an all Marist affair - Steele won the toss and elected to bat. The Cobalt team were happy to take the field on the cooler morning to allow the ground time to dry out from the overnight rain. Will Charles was nominated team captain for the match and quickly got his bowling line up underway. Things were looking good with three early wickets, however, our bowling efforts seemed to become arduous and Steele's endurance and running between the wickets was quietly nudging the score up and up. Cobalt are a strong fielding side, lots of positive banter, accuracy and speed is a treat for their best supports (their parents) to watch.

Steele set an impressive total of 174, achievable, but the chase was going to require dedication at the crease, smart and sensible calling between wickets and a sprinkling of good luck! Cobalt team have been known to chase down a win and opening batsman Flynn Hurley gave the team a strong start. Lucas Clifford retired (not out) with 21 runs, steadying the middle order. The batsmen were impressive, however equally impressive was Steele's grit and fight for the win and that they did. Unfortunately we ran out of overs and the win went to Steele.

A special mention to an old team mate Josh Moody, who stepped in at late notice. Josh added nine runs (not out) to the tally.

Each team expensive with extras always plays part in the total, and therefore the run chase. Not our win but great sportsmanship against school mates.

Stage 3 - Division 2

Marist Cobalt

Marist Cobalt 3/123 defeated WCMCC 5/122 / (T20 - abandoned)

Batting: Cameron Smith 63* (34), Lucas Clifford 31* (39)

Bowling: Flynn Hurley 2-5 (4), Seth Armytage 1-5 (3), Lucas Clifford 1-6 (2), Marcus Julien 1-16 (2)

After two weeks of washed out play, a week of school holidays and a number of boys sporting new tape fade trendy hair cuts, Marist Cobalt looked the part and were keen to take on their opponents, Western Creek Molonglo Cricket Cub (WCMCC). Hughes Oval was freshly mowed & looking very green from all the rain. WCMCC won the toss and elected to bat. Given the temperature was due to climate into the mid-thirties, a quick game is a good game and together, bowler Flynn Hurley, fielder Seb Videroni, took the first wicket in the third over. It is great to see the bonds of team work and friendship on the field being formed. Dot balls from the bowlers created the pressure, leading to great wickets. Seth Armytage sent the stumps flying for the second wicket of the match, followed by Lucas Clifford and Marcus Julien also successful with the assistance of fielders Jash Patharkar and Flynn Hurley taking classic catches. Cobalt's fielding was superb and every effort saved runs, keeping the chase to an achievable 123. Opening batsmen Marcus and Jash showed promise, however our first three wickets fell and Cobalt were 3/22. Enter, Lucas and Cameron Smith, both settling into the innings nicely. The cricket magic was about to begin. Boundaries were being hit all over the field with a combined 14 fours and two sixes between them - who wants to run between the wickets! A solid partnership of 101 between these two batsmen was a pleasure to watch. Celebrated with applause by the sidelines, Cameron held his bat high with another fifty, becoming the highest run scorer to date in our competition this year. Cobalt chased down the total with 10.1 overs in hand. A great convincing win by the team, building the momentum needed in the race to the finals.

Stage 3 - Division 2

Marist Cobalt

Marist Cobalt (1/102) defeated NCGCC (7/99)

Batting: Flynn Hurley 43* ret, Lucas Clifford 34*, Cameron Smith 13*

Bowling: Marcus Julien 2/16, Vivan Passi 1/2, Jash Patharkar 1/6, Nate 1/7, Cameron Smith 1/8, Flynn Hurley 1/18

Noteable Players: Vivan Passi for his slick caught & bowled and Cameron Smith for his 325 strike rate & not out innings during the 4 balls he faced!

Game Summary

Cobalt ventured north to Hackett excited for another positive 1 day team effort against NCGCC. Delayed start due to our opposition lacking players, coach, access to the bathrooms (new whiz bang electronic safe) - fresh gratitude for the dedicated organisation and running of MCCCC! We lost the toss, were sent into bowl and were glad to get underway.

Composed bowling with good line, length, variety and reduced extras from all our bowlers kept NCGCC to a low total with 6 of our 11 bowlers securing wickets (Nate, Cameron and Marcus rattlled the stumps) supported by Jonathan, Seth, Lucas (WK) and Vivan nabbing great catches in the field. Kudos to Jash who secured our only maiden over and Lucas, Seb (thank you for helping us out due to injury) and Vivan who had economy rates of 1.5 and below! Special mention to NCGCC's opening batter Uzair who retired 42* and was the backbone of their innings.

Cobalt faced our batting innings with purpose and commitment to show the skills developed throughout the season to chase down the required total showing in quick fashion (many had Marist soccer trials in the afternoon). Exactly what our batters (only 4 required) succesfully achieved! Flynn, Lucas and Cameron all scored multiple, glorious boundaries alongside other well placed classy shots, good calling and running between the wickets.

Player of the match - well deserved to Flynn for his focused batting effort to achieve another great retired not out innings, significantly contributing to our speedy chase down of NCGCC's total in the 13th over.

Inspirational quote - "No cricket team in the world depends on one or two players; the team always plays to win" (Virat Kohli). Coach Jaye's game debrief chat alluded to this - every player in Cobalt contributed in different ways to this classy win! NCGCC did likewise through their sportsmanship and perservance in how they played the game when facing team and organisational challenges on the day.

It was a wet and chilly morning. Eastlake Eagles chose to bat. Marist Cobalt were down a few players but kicked off well with a great wicket from Jash. Jash also went on to get another wicket and a cracker LBW. The tight bowling continued with an awesome caught and bowled from Jonathan, Cameron took two wickets with two great catches - one from Jonathan and one from Flynn.

Nate displayed some excellent bowling taking a wicket and having the only maiden of the day for Cobalt. Flynn and Vivan also taking great wickets for the team. Some notable catches and run outs from Cameron, Flynn, Jonathan, Seth and Lucas.

When it was our turn to bat, Lucas Clifford played a vital role, avoiding going out and returning to the crease to push our total up by 23, which helped land him player of the match. Nate also didn't go out with an impressive 31 runs. Cameron Smith smashed out two exciting sixes adding 25 runs. It was a team effort as always, thanks to Seb for filling in and adding 8 important runs. Unfortunately we didn't get the win, congratulations to Eastlake Eagles.

It was a crowning achievement by the Cobalt over the WCMCC, which was the sheer evidence of feet of the team strength.

Game Summary:

The Cobalt fellas headed north to Higgins for their first 1 dayer of 2025 excited to reconnect with each other and share fruits of their backyard cricket, net sessions & live/TV watching of the Aussie summer cricket feast! GJCC won the toss and put us into bat - very smart decision as the pitch and out field were very moist leaving the ball to skid variably and low, making run scoring tricky. As a result we faced probably the toughest batting conditions experienced this season to date! Our openers survived several dropped catches early and were able to lay a foundation. Kudos to Vivan and Will who both played very patient innings to retire not out. Boundaries were hard to come by but Flynn, Vivan, Jonny and Isaac all tasted success! Innings break was welcome for refreshments and to discuss tactics and be buoyed up by encouragement from super coach Jaye who rallied us to be switched on in the field and back our commendable bowling unit to defend a lower than usual total. Cobalt delivered in bucket loads with tight, accurate bowling, outstanding fielding and united teamwork to slow GJCC's run rate but with the sun out, runs were flowing more easily. 5 of our 9 bowlers secured wickets with Flynn, Seth and Nate knocking over the stumps on several occasions between them, along with Jonny and Nate achieving a maiden each. Jash and Vivan's spin bowling provided variety to our attack and Jonny's wonderful fast bowling bamboozled the opposition ending with an enviable economy rate of 1.00! Marcus and Isaac showed dedication in the field and our WKs, Lucas and Cam both took important caught behinds for us between them (3 in total), supported by a run out from Flynn & Nate. The match went down to the wire - Cobalt fell just short on securing the win but can be proud of how they fought and showed good sportsmanship throughout. Lessons learnt which we can take into the remainder of our season to keep having fun and improving - slicker running between the wickets, less sundries in our bowling and more purposeful field setting to match bowling and batting skillset. The following anonymous quotes are a fitting way to conclude Cobalt's report for this week - "It’s not about the game you’re playing; it’s about the heart you put into it." "Victory is not just about winning; it’s about fighting till the last ball."

Marist Cobalt

Marist Cobalt, 166, defeated by Marist Steele, 8/170.

Batting: Isaac Sladic 57, Vivan Passi   15*, Marcus Julien 14

Bowling: Hugh Williams 2/8 off 3

Noteable performance: Isaac Sladic for his maiden 50 and for single-handedly bringing Cobalt back into the game.

Having missed the finals Cobalt pulled on the whites one last time for a final game against Marist Steele. With a little more than bragging right at stake, both teams turned up to play. A wet outfield and pitch made the toss an important one to win and unfortunately, as has been the case since the season resumed in 2025, Cobalt was on the losing end and was asked to bowl.

Cobalt toiled hard with a rapidly deteriorating ball, but still saw a steady flow of wickets falling l, and at drinks the game was evenly poised.  Fill-in player Hugh Williams stepped up taking key wickets at crucial moments which kept Steele and their trademark aggressive batting from getting away from us.

Steele stepped up the momentum after drinks and while wickets did continue to fall, they amassed an

imposing 170 from their 30 overs.

The Colbalt run chase got off to a shaky start with disciplined bowling and sharp catching bringing Cobalt to it's knees to be 5/28. Cobalt had been in this position before - 5/27 against Wests Wolverines chasing a similar total and getting the job done. Surely not again?

Enter Isaac Sladic. Isaac played the greatest innings of his young career with a incredible 57 from 45 balls which dragged Cobalt from the depths to within an inch of an unlikely victory. He was strong in all areas of the field and didn't look like getting out until he was caught on his 45th ball. Well supported by Marcus, Vivan and Seb the game came down to the last ball with 4 required to achieve a tie or a 6 for victory.

Alas it was not to be with composed bowling by Joe Imbriano dislodging the stumps, providing Steele with a 4 run Victory.

Special mention to Will for his strong captaincy and contribution with bat and ball.

After the game the two teams enjoyed a bbq and the coaches reflected on what has been a great rivalry across the season. Two wins apiece in the regular season and just four runs between them in the 'final'.

But a win is a win. Congratulations Marist Steele.

Marist Midnight, 5/182, defeated by Burgmann Hawks, 2/183.

Batting: Seb 33* no, Sajan 32* rtno

Bowling: Seb 2/25

Fielding: Noah one Catch

Marist Midnight coming into Burgmann with the oval being wet. Marist called heads and won the toss and elected to bat. With Jack and Hugh opening the batting. Getting a few runs with Jack getting a six and 2 fours. By the 3rd over we were 1/18. In a couple of overs Tom gets out and gets a career high of 7 runs and we were 3/51. Then Marist didn't lose a wicket until the last over. With Sajan getting a career high with 32 runs and Marist ended the innings with 5/182.

With the field drying up. Marist goes in to bowl with Noah and Nate bowling the first 6 overs to bring the pace attack. But they couldn't break the partnership. Sen came into the attack by bowling spin and got the only 2 wickets of the game and Burgmann ended up winning their first game all season.

Overall the team did well with the batting but we could have done better with the fielding.

Marist faced Queanbeyan in a high-stakes semi-final, the outcome of which would determine who advanced to the grand final. Marist won the toss and opted to bat. Our openers, Lucas and Jack, laid a solid foundation before Lucas was caught. Jack continued aggressively, scoring a flurry of boundaries before he too was caught. Despite a slow start, Seb found his rhythm and ended his innings with an important 30 not out. Noah joined in and played confidently throughout his innings, finishing with a well-earned 32 not out. The lower order maintained the runs, bringing our total to a good 157.

When it was time to bowl, we struggled to secure a wicket until the 13th over. However, Marist's bowlers consistently built pressure and began taking wickets. Noah and Delwyn delivered many important dot balls, slowing the opposition's progress. With Queanbeyan needing 11 runs from the final over, Nate bowled skillfully. It all came down to the last ball, with Queanbeyan needing a six to win. They failed to hit the boundary, and Marist came out victorious, securing their spot in the grand final next Sunday. The team's overall performance was very good, with Noah standing out for his contributions with both the bat and the ball.

Marist Midnight, 7/128, defeated Queanbeyan White, 44.

Batting: Nate Chappelow 36* Ragsajan Rajkumar 18*

Bowling: Nate Chappelow 2/7 Noah maguire 2/16

The last one-day game of the season saw Marist up against Queanbeyan, who were sitting in second place. We won the toss and elected to bat, with Lucas and Jack opening. They built a solid partnership before sadly Jack was caught. The middle order faced some tough times, losing a few wickets in not many overs, but Nate and Sajan came through to secure the runs. With only 128 on the board, Marist knew they had to bowl and field tightly.

The first wicket fell quickly, with Nate striking in the second over, followed by Noah in the next. From then on, Queanbeyan experienced a major batting collapse, losing 5 wickets in the following few overs, including a direct-hit run-out from the boundary by Seb. With Queanbeyan down to 9 wickets, Marist made sure to keep up the pressure. In the 12th over, Queanbeyan tried to run a double but were run out by Lucas. Marist won the game, bowling Queanbeyan out for just 44 runs!

Everyone performed great, but the game was highlighted by an all-around performance from Nate. This victory secured Marist's top spot on the ladder and their place in the finals!

Marist Midnight - S3, 8/135, defeated Eastlake Corellas, 8/99 - One Day Grand Final

Written By Captain Sajan Rajkumar

Nerves and excitement filled the air as Marist Midnight arrived at Garran, eager to claim the silverware. Already crowned Minor Premiers, the big question remained: Could they secure the title as Premiers of Stage 3 Div 3?

Marist won the toss and chose to bat first. However, things didn’t start off smoothly as they lost a couple of early wickets and found themselves at 3/28. Enters Noah, who played without pressure, providing the team with much-needed runs. Aaron joined him, and together they steadied the ship, bringing the score to 4/109. Marist batted through the full 30 overs, finishing with a solid total of 8/135, setting Eastlake a decent target.

After a motivational pep talk from coach Steve, Marist took to the field, fired up and ready to claim the silverware. With Noah and Nate leading the bowling attack, Eastlake struggled to get off to a fast start, scoring few runs in the first four overs. But then, Eastlake started finding their rhythm, hitting the ball all over the park. By the 13th over, they were in control with a score of 2/60, looking to chase down the target comfortably.

That’s when our brilliant coach Will made the key move by setting a leg-side trap. The strategy paid off as Liam took a crucial wicket, assited by a sharp piece of fielding from Seb. The momentum shifted, and Marist was back on top. The team continued to bowl with precision, keeping Eastlake’s runs down with a well-executed offside trap and slower deliveries. Delwyn bowled superbly, taking 3/22 from 6 overs, while Liam followed up with 1/15 off 6 overs, and Hugh contributed with 1/3 from just 2 overs. By the 29th over, Eastlake’s required run rate had skyrocketed to 21.5 runs per over. Marist kept the pressure on, conceding only 4 runs in that over.

In the final over, Eastlake needed 39 runs to win. Noah bowled with confidence, and an excellent run-out from Aaron sealed the deal. Eastlake fell short, finishing on 99 runs, handing Marist a thrilling victory by 36 runs. The team erupted in celebration, fired up and ecstatic to have won the title!

A huge thank you to our Cricket ACT Umpire Chris Cahill and Xander Denny for helping us umpire, f, as well as Matt and Steve for their umpiring throughout the season. A special thanks to the scorers and to Will, our coach, who led us to the finals and kept the faith in us. Kim, our manager, played a crucial role in organising everything, ensuring that we always had a sub when needed. To all the supporters who came out to watch, especially our parents your encouragement meant the world to us. And last but not least, thank you to Archie for stepping in as our star fill-in throughout the season.

What a season. What a victory. Marist Midnight, Premiers of Stage 3 Div 3!
