After losing the toss and being sent into bat, Light started absolutely clinically with Arjun and Christian both solid through the opening overs against a fierce Eastlake opening line up and both retiring reaching their 30 balls setting Light up for a great innings in the heat. From there, even with notable batters out being Steve and Ernest the boys played like they finished off last year, smashing boundary after boundary, taking it to Eastlake with ease, with smart running, great calling and notable knocks from Noah (40) and Wilson (53) both also retiring undefeated. Arjun and Christian, then came back in and worked out it was much better hitting boundaries, than running in the heat, both finishing on 56 and 41 respectively with 18 off the last over against Eastlake's opening bowler.
Our bowling and fielding started strong with Steve taking a wicket in the first over toppling the top of off stump, and the wickets tumbled constantly after that thanks to Leo & Wilson dimissing 3 out of the top 5 batters in the comp for a combined total of 9 runs. Noah was a real challenge to face and was unlucky not to get a scalp after some tough catches were grassed. Light really picked up from last year and were electric in the field, making runs difficult and some great runouts by Leo, Noah, Christian and Vivaan who kept very cool heads under pressure. Will F stood up as fill in keeper along with Leo who both did amazing with the gloves in hot conditions.
Eastlake's tail were difficult to dismiss as the heat started rising, before Arjun and Will F finished the job keeping the run chase under 100 giving Light a healthy percentage boost in the lead up to finals. Huge thanks to Will O'Brien (Wobby) for filling in for us again, and huge offort from parents who constantly ran drinks, and kept the boys cool and hydrated under the gazebo's all game.
Great effort boys. So proud of you.
