A thumping pre-Christmas victory for the Royals boys last Saturday, with the team setting CGS a target of 190 to win for the loss of 6 wickets. Openers Lachie Miller (37 from 45) and Logan McCrae set a strong foundation, with Keyaan Daarji (28) and Patrick Geddes (18) kicking things along. Preston Singer blasted 50 from 45 balls, with his half ton coming up on the last ball of the innings. Grammar had a very capable team, but suffered 3 early losses (1 for 6, 2 for 6 and 3 for 11). Nick Brennan took two of these and Dom Shoebridge the other. A cheeky one-handed caught and bowled from Keyaan was casual artistry. But the standout for Marist in the field was wicketkeeper Archie Brown – three catches and assisted 3 run outs, with his involvement in 6 wickets reminding the cheering crowd of Rod Marsh’s 6 wicket single innings haul against England at the GABBA back in ’82. Champagne cricket from the boys that made even super coach Cade Brown smile.
