Stage 3 - Division 1
Marist Royal
T20 - Marist Royal 4/108 beat Radford 8/104
Batting Archie Brown 29 (retired), Preston 24, Ben Callaway 21
Bowling Keyaan Darji 2/9 (4 overs), Lachie Miller 1/3 (1 over) Harry Whalen 1/9 (3 overs)
The Marist boys won the toss, and skipper Loges was happy to bat first on the uncharacteristic slow Marist out field. Unfortunately Lachie went early, but Preston built solid partnerships with both Benny and Archie to contribute the bulk of the Marist score, the last overs left Kalindu, Loges and Cameron to add some valuable runs. The brains trusts were non-committal if the 108 total would be enough, but coach Brown had faith the boys had the talent to defend the total.
Opening the bowling, Harry struck in the first over, care of a classy catch by wicketkeeper Preston. The start the team needed, Breno, Keyaan and Logan all bowled tight to keep the runs at a minimum. Keyaan being rewarded with 2 wickets, the best when he bowled former Marist student Kian with a wrong-un. At the drinks break the Radford boys had dropped behind on the required run rate, but with wickets in hand and some classy bats to come the boys knew the game was far from over. More restrictive bowling from Kalindu, Lachie and Benny squeezed the life out of their innings. The run rate creeping slowly from 10 an over out to 20 off the last over. The last over had everyone on the edge of their seats, including those watching at home via the ball by ball description on PlayHQ. Skipper Loges bowling the final over with an inform Radford batsman on strike willing to throw everything at the win. Loges remained calm and restricted them to 15 to just fall in for the win. Well done Marist!
