Role description

Students will need to be prepared to commit to the team they are volunteering to support.  Student coaches will primarily be assigned to an ungraded Stage 1 team, where most players are aged 10 or 11.

Student coaches will be paired with another student coach and be under the guidance of a parent coach. Students are invited to nominate a friend to share the coaching duties with. While it is preferred that student coaches attend both their allocated team's training sessions and matches, shared responsibilities among coaches can be arranged to help students manage other commitments.

No formal coaching knowledge or experience is needed. Student coaches will receive basic training and preparation to ensure they are well prepared for the season ahead.  Student coaches are encouraged to attended the Community Coaches Course. The Marist Cricket Club will inform student coaches when available.

Student coaches will be supported from both the College and the Club. Each team will have at least one designated parent to assist during training and on match day. Support will include communication, player management, coaching duties and team and match day organisation.

Time Commitments

Students will need to discuss what they can commit to with the College Cricket Coordinator.

A cricket season is between October (Term 4) and March/April (Term 1), with a break over Christmas.

Ungraded teams usually train and play once a week.

Training is usually for 1 or 1 ½ hours after school and will be held at Marist or Pearce oval. Student coaches will be given priority where possible for training day allocation.

Matches are approximately 2 ½ hours and the days can vary.  Stage 1 ungraded games are mostly on a Friday evening starting at 4:30pm. Other match days may include Wednesday evening, or Saturday or Sunday morning starting at 8:15am. To support student coaches in managing other commitments, match day allocations will be discussed with each coach before teams are assigned.

Service Hours

Students who volunteer to support junior teams will be eligible to earn College Service Hours. Those who are successfully placed into a volunteer role and complete the season will have their contribution formally signed off by an appropriate Club Committee Member and submitted to the College Cricket Coordinator.
