Stage 1 Friday
Marist Hurricanes
Hurricanes (128) defeated by Lorikeets (150)
On Friday 20 February, and with the end of the cricket season in sight, the Marist Hurricanes and Eastlake Rainbow Lorikeets met at the Deakin oval.
The Hurricanes were first to bowl the 20 overs with the opening salvo led by Kanoa Fatnowna and he didn’t disappoint. He placed the Lorikeets on the back foot immediately by running out one of the first batters with his first bowl. Across the 20 overs the Hurrincanes took 5 wickets, two of which were taken by Kiaan Dahivalkar, 3 run outs and a notable catch by Harry Woodford. Across the innings the Lorikeets managed an average of 15 runs per over setting a high bar for the Hurricanes to chase post their pizza (and the odd ant) dinner.
The Hurricanes took to the crease but whilst they were not able to match the batting average of the Lorikeets there were a number of high scoring overs particularly from Kabeesh Bag and Kanoa Fatnowna who scored 16 and 19 runs respectively. At the end of the 20 overs the final score was 150 to the Hurricanes 128.
However, the growth in the team was once again evident. Over most overs, aside from the odd boundary, most runs were notched through the tenacity and determination of each player taking risks and maximising opportunities from the other side’s mis-fielding. A great game to watch.
