Stage 2 Friday
Marist Aqua
Marist Aqua (3/150) defeated BAS Falcons (6/49)
Marist Aqua took on a slight disorganised Burgmann Anglican School (BAS Falcons) side on Friday the 21st for Round 6, with a delayed start after Aqua kindly waited for BAS team members to arrive. In freezing conditions at Deakin, captain Vincent Imbriano won the toss and elected to bat. A steady opening partnership between Rami Moore and Edmund Dziedzic capitalised on a stream of no-balls and wides. Josh Rolands added to the total before an outstanding 51-run stand from Lawrence Friesen and Daniel Trinca, both retiring not out. A sharp delivery from Burgmann removed Vincent for a golden duck, but Aqua finished strongly with valuable late runs from Fredrick Friesen and Julian Baseby to post an impressive 3/150.
After a short break, Aqua’s bowlers settled quickly into rhythm. Chayan Mehta, Julian Baseby, and Vincent opened steadily before Fredrick delivered a brilliant caught-and-bowled in the 7th over. Confident and precise wicketkeeping from Ryan Nammuni Dewage supported the bowlers’ momentum, and Vincent struck again in the 8th. With Edmund taking over the gloves, he worked seamlessly with Lawrence, who claimed another wicket, before Edmund’s quick thinking secured a sharp stumping. Consistent bowling from Josh, Rami, and a confident Chayan—who delivered another clean-bowled wicket—kept Burgmann under pressure. Lawrence sealed the match with a late wicket, restricting Burgmann to 6/49.
Marist Aqua continues to be on fire!
