Willow Talk #5 - week ending 16th November

Stage 2 Friday

Marist Aqua

Marist Aqua (5/87) defeated Marist Slate (7/86)

At South Curtin Oval, Marist Aqua faced Marist Slate, supported by relieving coaches Heath Friesen and Kane Dewage. After Captain Lawrence Friesen won the toss and elected to bowl, Aqua opened well with a steady first over from Rami Moore. A breakthrough coming when Edmund Dziedzic claimed the first wicket, quickly followed by a sharp catch from Josh Rolands that lifted Aqua’s momentum. Lawrence soon found his rhythm, taking a wicket of his own, and the pressure continued to build as Vincent Imbriano’s delivery produced a clean outfield catch by Daniel Trinca. By the end of the innings, Aqua had held Slate to 86 runs—setting the stage for an exciting chase.

Aqua began their run pursuit confidently, with a solid opening partnership between Josh and Fredrick Friesen. Vincent and Ryan Nammuni Dewage added valuable runs, with Vincent notching a further 10. The innings stayed alive thanks to a crucial 17-run contribution from Daniel, supported well by Julian Baseby, keeping spectators—once again—on the edge of their camping chairs. Chayan provided steadiness at the crease, though Edmund, his batting partner, unfortunately fell for a golden duck. With the match tightening, Captain Lawrence stepped up to add another 10 runs, steering Aqua toward the target. The final delivery, a wide, sealed the win.

Standout performer Josh Rolands shone throughout with 16 not out, two catches, and two wickets in a match that showcased grit, teamwork, and a thrilling finish.
