Willow Talk #13 - week ending 22nd February

Stage 2 Friday

Marist Aqua

Marist Aqua (6/100) defeated by WCMCC Gold (6/109)

On Friday 20 February, Marist Aqua faced Weston Creek Gold at Curtin South Oval. Captain Edmund Dziedzic won the toss and elected to bowl. A big thank you goes to our superstar stand-in, Daniel Duffy from Stage 1, who has regularly filled in for Aqua this season. We greatly appreciate the Duffy family’s support and love having Daniel as part of the team.

Aqua opened with solid bowling from Rami Moore and Daniel Duffy, highlighted by a run out from Daniel on the sixth ball. Weston Creek started slowly before finding boundaries and building momentum. Strong fielding efforts included a well-taken catch by Fred Friesen and a clean bowled wicket from Chayan Mehta, whose confidence continues to grow each week. Tight bowling from Vincent Imbriano and Ryan Nammuni Dewage helped slow the scoring, with Rami claiming another wicket in the field during the 11th over. Lawrence Friesen and Daniel Trinca maintained steady pressure, while Edmund took a wicket in the 16th over and Rami added another catch soon after. Weston Creek finished their innings at 6/109.

Lawrence gave Aqua a positive start in the chase, finding the boundary early, but frequent dot balls made scoring difficult. Daniel Trinca added a boundary and, alongside Ryan, showed patience at the crease before Daniel retired not out and Ryan was bowled. Vincent and Fred worked hard to rebuild the innings, with Fred contributing valuable runs before retiring after an impressive 24 from 20 balls. Contributions from Chayan, Edmund and Rami kept Aqua in contention, but despite a determined late effort from Daniel Trinca and Daniel Duffy, Aqua finished just nine runs short.
