Stage 2 Friday Night Cricket – Aqua vs SEC Black

Deakin Mint Oval

Friday night at Deakin Mint Oval saw our 2026–7 Aqua boys take to the field against SEC Black, with barely a chance to train together beforehand. SEC Black won the toss and elected to bat first, but Aqua wasted no time showing glimpses of the talent and potential this season holds.

Lawry Friesen opened strongly, scoring 10 runs from 20 deliveries, including a boundary, while captain Henry Burnett provided support at the crease with a handy 5 before being bowled. A terrific partnership between Tom Ferrari and Edmund Dziedzic followed, with excellent communication and teamwork adding another 20 runs to the total. Tom led the charge with an impressive 14, and both boys retired not out. Chayan Mehta continued his strong form from last season, contributing a valuable 7 runs, while Nish Natu unfortunately fell for a duck – a cruel reminder that cricket doesn't always reward our best efforts! Andrew Szivek added another 3 runs before Aqua wrapped up a quick first innings.

With the batters' cobwebs shaken off, Aqua took to the field and began to find their rhythm. Vinnie Imbriano, Nicholas Ford and Andrew delivered some solid bowling, while Nish made his mark in the fifth over, claiming Aqua's first wicket. Andrew followed suit in the sixth, and the momentum continued with Tom taking a wicket in the ninth over and Chayan adding another in the tenth. Chayan also showed some promising bowling technique, while Edmund provided reliable wicketkeeping support throughout the innings.

While the boys may still be finding their feet as a team, there is plenty to be excited about. With some focused skill development at training and more time together in the middle, we look forward to seeing Aqua's confidence and combinations grow throughout the season.

A special thank you to our senior coaches, Noah and Hamish. Your influence is already shining through, and we look forward to seeing what this group can achieve together. Go Aqua!
