Stage 2 Friday
Marist Aqua
Marist Aqua (7/82) defeated by Weston Creek (1/83)
Curtin Oval served up a warm and overcast Friday afternoon for Aqua’s clash with Weston Creek. Aqua lost the toss, sending the boys out to bat first against a bowling attack generous with wides and no-balls!
Henry Burnett and new player Nicholas Ford got Aqua ticking along, with Nicholas retiring not out in a fantastic start to his game. Tom Ferrari joined Henry at the crease before being caught in the seventh over, followed by Henry being bowled in the eighth. Vincent Imbriano and Edmund Dziedzic helped steady the ship, before Vinny was caught. Enter Lawrence Friesen, who joined Edmund for a delightful partnership. Boundaries flowed from both batsmen, with some lovely shots rewarding their patience and teamwork. Edmund retired not out, while Lawry continued battling before being bowled. Nish Natu and Andrew Szivek kept the scoreboard moving, and Nicholas and Edmund returned for second spells, with Edmund unfortunately run out late in the 18th over.
Aqua’s bowling innings began quietly, with Nish, Andrew and Lawry taking turns. Lawry showed lovely technique and experience, while Vincent produced a sharp catch in the sixth over to claim a Weston Creek wicket. Behind the stumps, Edmund was impressive, showing sharp reflexes and accurate wicketkeeping to keep things tidy. Despite some determined bowling, wides gave Weston Creek a helping hand, and they gradually edged ahead to claim the win.
Another Friday, another chance to learn, improve and enjoy the game. Well played, Aqua boys!
