Marist First XI Continue Strong Start with Dominant Win
Marist First XI continued their excellent start to the season with a commanding win over St Edmund’s, wrapping things up just before the weather decided it had seen enough.
Batting first, St Edmund’s were dismissed for 124 in the 39th over as Marist applied pressure throughout. Manveer Singh again led the attack with 3/20 from eight overs, his leg-spin operating with the sort of deviousness that suggested the ball knew considerably more about its destination than the batsman did. Logan McRae claimed 2/20 from seven overs, while four other Marist bowlers joined the wicket-taking festivities.
In the field, Lachlan Miller produced the day’s acrobatic highlight with a superb diving run-out, rudely overturning the batsman’s perfectly reasonable assumption that a stroke of such quality was entitled to at least one run.
With rain approaching, Marist had no interest in hanging about. Keyaan Darji and Preston Singer set about the chase with something of Caesar’s approach to Gaul: they arrived, surveyed the opposition and conquered it with remarkably little fuss. Keyaan blasted 60 from just 36 balls, while Preston finished unbeaten on 53 from 47.
Marist reached 1/125 in the 15th over, moments before the rain arrived, suggesting the openers had either studied the forecast carefully or simply had somewhere else to be.
A complete performance with ball, bat and in the field, and another convincing win for the First XI.
