Willow Talk #2 - week ending 25th October

Stage 3 Div 2

Marist Light

Marist Light beaten 154 by Marist Navy, 181

Batting: William Costigan 48* and Sourav Karthik Nair 26*.

Bowling: Lachlan Poole 2/7, Kemith Orawatte 2/16 and William Costigan 2/21.

While the weather looked ominous for Marist's Stage 3 Division 2 derby, all the boys were keen to get out on the field and get the game underway.

Marist Navy won the toss and elected to bat, sending Marist Light into the field. Captain Ernest opened the bowling with good pace, and Lachlan E claimed the first wicket in the fifth over.

Marist Light worked hard throughout the innings and didn't make it easy for the Navy batters. Lachlan P, Will and Kemith were the pick of the bowlers, taking two wickets each. Will was unlucky to miss out on a hat-trick, but all the bowlers contributed and helped keep the opposition to 181 from their 30 overs.

Chasing 182 for victory, Aaryan helped get the innings off to a solid start before Will took control of the run chase with a great knock. He retired not out on 48 from 45 balls, including eight boundaries and a six. Sourav also batted well, finishing unbeaten on 26 and helping keep the scoreboard ticking over.

Despite this effort, Marist Light fell short of the target. We kept fighting right until the final overs and never gave up.

While the result didn't go Marist Light's way, there were plenty of positives to take from the game. The two teams will meet again on Wednesday night in their opening T20 match, and Marist Light will be hoping to get the win this time around.
