Willow Talk #12 - week ending 15th February

Stage 3 Div 3

Marist Midnight

Marist Midnight 9/97 defeated by St Edmunds College White 9/234.

Marist fielded first, with Hamish getting a couple of early wickets and finishing with 2/16. Nate Hamilton finished with the most wickets on 3/24 against some quality batters.

While some of the more experienced batters settled in for Eddies to finish with 234, some of our bowlers showed some lovely movement of the ball, especially Orlando and Joshua with a wicket each. The score of Eddies hides some real advances in fielding from the team this week. Opposition feedback recognised the positive attitude of the team and ability of the boys to move to back up the play in the field. Well done boys.

Nate reached the season milestone of 300 runs this week, topping off a great captains day and receiving the coaches award for the week. Finn was our second highest scorer and also showed great use of the bat, scoring 16 off 24 and topping 100 for the season. Finn’s work in the field and movement of the run rate earnt him the parents award. Matthew opened the batting and retired, steadying the fall of wickets and working well to pressure the field. The boys are developing some lovely stroke work with the bat, which included Nick scoring his first boundary with a beautiful cover drive. Although the runs were hard to find, the boys faced some pretty experienced bowling and defended their wickets, Harrison showing some very promising signs of great work with the bat against very good bowling.
