Marist Midnight ventured to Lyneham to find blue skies, sunshine and a wet pitch after overnight dew. Losing the toss, we were sent in, to bowl. Midnight got off to a solid start with some early wickets but ANU dug in - uncharacteristic high extras combined with a lack of proactive fielding contributed to the opposition putting up a formidable total to chase. Great to report that 5 team members took wickets with Ryan Matthew leading the way with 2 in his 1st over! Our batting innings saw a significant batting collapse - credit to ANU for their tight line & length bowling and multiple catches (many were impressive dives and leaps with outstretched arms). Such a tough result is difficult to deal with (at the time and post match) but the team is to be commended on showing excellent sportsmanship amidst their natural disappointment. Cricket is very character building - refines us as players and humans! Midnight, let's use this setback early in our season as a step up to bounce back strongly. We are confident that progress and our team spirit will shine through in coming weeks under Coach Simon's expert guidance and patience with players being committed to improvement, working hard at training, and maintaining a positive mindset. This week - congratulations to Ryan for the Coach's Award - showing lots of potential, skill & enthusiasm in his first season of cricket and to Eddie Tunningley for the Parent's Award - backing up from Friday to help us out when we were short - great effort sharing WK duties, on target bowling and energy in the field!
