A cracking day for cricket in Yarralumla, with Lake Burley Griffin as the backdrop. Marist Navy lost the toss and were sent in to bat.
Our top order delivered a composed start, building steadily towards our highest total of the season, passing 200 for the first time. Will and Noah both finished unbeaten on 43, with Noah launching three towering sixes in a standout innings.
At the end of 30 overs we felt confident, but cautious. Grammar had topped 200 more than once this season, Navy knew there’d be no cruising home.
Grammar began strongly, reaching 54 before Evander struck with Navy’s first successful LBW of the season (after plenty of enthusiastic appeals in earlier weeks!). Three quick wickets followed and Navy were in control at 5–98.
The drinks break revived Grammar, who pushed to a threatening 144 before Will produced a spectacular run out to break the stand. Cholan and Issac then claimed the final two wickets in the dying overs, wrapping things up just as the senior cricketers arrived to reclaim the pitch.
Navy seem determined to take every game down to the wire. Thrilling for the crowd, slightly less so for Coach Jarrod. Well done, boys.
