Game Summary:
It was a fantastic start to the season for Marist Navy! For several of our players, this was their first taste of competitive cricket, and they all played beautifully.
The GJCC Bengal Tigers won the toss and elected to bowl, giving our batters the opportunity to get out there and put some runs on the board. They approached the challenge with plenty of enthusiasm and worked hard to set a competitive total for the Bengal Tigers to chase.
Every batter contributed to the total, and well done to Jared who led the way with an impressive 19 runs off just 15 balls!
When Marist Navy took to the field, any first-game nerves had well and truly disappeared. The team’s fielding was excellent, with plenty of backing up, enthusiasm, and a great attitude. The boys showed composure, chased the ball eagerly, and did a terrific job of staying focused and thinking about where their next throw was going.
Behind the stumps, our wicketkeepers, Ben and Angus, were fantastic. Their quick hands helped create several run-out opportunities, including a few near misses that certainly kept the batters on their toes!
Marist Navy took an impressive five wickets, with Jared leading the way by claiming our team’s first wicket with a great delivery. He followed it up a few overs later with an exciting run-out.
A special mention to Amrit for his show of sportsmanship, he kindly helped a GJCC Bengal Tigers player after he was struck on the hand by the ball. Amrit helped him get his bat back in hand and checked that he was okay to continue playing. It was a thoughtful gesture that showed great respect for the opposition and the true spirit of cricket.
This is a promising group of young cricketers, and we’re excited to see their skills, confidence, and teamwork continue to grow throughout the season. Well done, Marist Navy, on a wonderful first game!
