Willow Talk #6 - week ending 23rd November

Stage 1 Div 1

Marist Royal

Marist Royal (184) defeated Queanbeyan (129)

Batting:

Ethan Parry - 34

Tom Jenkins - 28

Bowling:

Lewis Fillbrook - 2/14

Conor Casey - 2/16

Summary:

The Royals took on Queanbeyan on a brisk, overcast morning at Gowrie Oval. Captain Ollie won the bat flip and elected to bowl.

The boys held a very disciplined line and length in the first ten overs with Lewis (2/14) getting things rolling by striking twice in his first over, followed by Conor (2/16) who was amongst the wickets once again. The fielding was sharp throughout with Tom picking up his 5th and 6th direct hit run-out for the season - a great effort - and Ollie had another good day with the gloves with some excellent takes down leg side. After the break the boys kept the runs in check, including holding Queanbeyan's best batter to his lowest score of the season, and restricted them to 105 off their 20 overs.

Conor (21) and Ben (23) opened the batting and got the Royals off to a flyer, hitting four boundaries each and running hard between the wickets for a 50 run partnership. Ethan carried on that momentum with a belligerent 34 including seven boundaries. Ollie and Lewis kept the runs ticking over throughout the middle before Tom (28) played his best innings to date with some great controlled hitting. Our innings was bookended by a confident 19 from Lachie who filled in for us this week.

It was another consistent performance across the board from the Royals who are building into the season nicely.
