Willow Talk #12 - week ending 15th February

Stage 1 Div 1

Marist Royal

Marist Royals (222) Defeated BAS Condors (135)

Batting: Ethan Parry (34/17), Tom Jenkins (31/17), Ollie Henry (30/18)

Bowling: Ethan Parry (5/14)

Hot on the heels of last week’s thrilling victory, the Royals came out full of confidence and intent. They combined smart shot selection with sharp running between the wickets to post an imposing total of 174.

Henry and Tom set the tone early, running hard between the wickets, with excellent communication and crisp stroke play, Tom scored a season-best 31. Lewis and Conor built solidly on that platform with some great shots, before Liam and match captain Ethan took control to push the total even further.

Ethan lit up the innings with the Royals’ first six of the season a beautifully timed strike over mid-wicket on his way to an outstanding 34. Ollie rounded off the batting effort in style, finishing strong on 30, his highest score of the season.

If the batting was impressive, the bowling and fielding effort was equally outstanding. The Royals showed tremendous spirit in the field, taking an incredible 12 wickets.

Ollie marked his return to pace bowling with a well-earned wicket and also contributed with a sharp catch behind the stumps. Conor impressed with both a wicket and a smart run-out, while Henry produced one of the moments of the match a brilliant run-out from his knees with a direct throw. Captain Ethan delivered a bowling masterclass, claiming the team’s first five-wicket haul in superb fashion.

Behind the stumps, Tom and Ollie were dependable and alert, keeping tidy throughout. On the rare occasion that a ball did slip through, itwas backed up quickly by a switched-on fielding unit.

A fantastic all-round performance from the Royals. It’s a pleasure to see the team playing with such enthusiasm, teamwork and confidence.
