The Marist S1 Scorchers returned to action on a breezy afternoon at Mawson Oval, where the cool wind was very welcome after a scorching hot day. Sent in to bat, the Scorchers approached their innings with confidence and patience, building a steady platform through the top order.
Hayden Carolan continued his excellent form with a composed 21 from 17 balls, while Pranav Nair added a valuable 13 from his 17 deliveries, keeping the scoreboard moving throughout the early overs.
As the innings progressed, the Scorchers maintained strong intent, rotating the strike well and capitalising on loose deliveries. Thomas Moody provided an exciting late-innings lift, striking a lively 19 that pushed the team to a competitive total of 119. It was an innings marked by teamwork and growing maturity at the crease, with contributions across the batting order.
The Strikers began their chase with real determination, scoring freely despite enthusiastic pressure from the Scorchers in the field. However, the energy of the team never dropped, and their persistence was rewarded after the drinks break.
A remarkable four-over stretch saw the Scorchers claim five wickets, shifting the momentum dramatically. What made the performance particularly special was the collective contribution from every player.
Each member of the team claimed wicket, a catch, or a run-out to help secure the Scorchers’ second win of the season. Their support for one another, commitment in the field, and growing understanding as a team were clear to see, making this victory both well deserved and highly encouraging for the second-half of the season.
