Marist Steele

Marist Steele (2/214) Defeated St Edmunds Black (6/72)

Batting: Josh Katz 46, Edward Tunningley 39, Jack Tunningley 33

Bowling: Edward Tunningley 2/3, Jack Tunningley 2/7, Maxwell Feeney 1/1

On a warm Canberra afternoon, Marist Steele took the stand by batting first against a spirited St Edmunds Black. Against a Marist side still glowing from victory in their opening match, St Edmunds Black delivered a solid bowling performance down the wicket. Openers Benjamin Jacey and Maxwell Feeney laid the foundation for an excellent mid order batting run from the Tunningley brothers and Josh Katz. A special mention must go  to Edward Tunningley for finding a good number of boundaries and to Hamish Carling for making his best score.

With the setting sun of the late afternoon and early evening approaching, the long shadow of the trees created a more difficult bowling situation in which the Marist bowlers excelled. With Josh Katz showing composure and Edward Tunningley having an excellent over in which 2 wickets were taken, there was great improvement and confidence from all the bowlers. The close fielding put constant pressure on the batters with further excellent back up fielding on display throughout. In only his first season of cricket, Armaan Rehman took an superb catch while Edward Tunningley was not to be outdone by an equally marvellous catch from behind the stumps.

Well done to Marist Steele for taking a well deserved win against St Edmunds Black.
