Game Summary
The Strikers displayed teamwork, enthusiasm and significant cricket skill progress against a more experienced SEC. Sent into bat, runs were hard to come by against commendable bowling - strong line & length and some of the fastest pace we have faced this season. The boys showed progress with playing the "V" and defensive shots when warranted, calling and running between the wickets learnt from hard yards together at training. Owen top scored with 7, followed by Jack with 6 (incl a glorious boundary) and James R, Doug & Ahn on 5 each.
Lots of encouragement at the innings break saw us head into the field with our minds on continuing to stay positive, display sportsmanship and unity regardless of the score and (likely) game outcome. The boys delivered in spades with 9 wickets including 6 excellent run outs by 5 different team members! Special mention for their economical bowling - James Pike 0/2 (2) and Austin Ferrari 0/5 (2).
Players of the match - Jack for his all round inspiring performance and achieving special batting (50 runs) and bowing (5 wickets) milestones to date for the season; James Gooley for his improvement in batting and exceptional fielding leading to 3+wickets.
Words of inspiration that align well with Marist and Strikers' values - "every match is a new adventure" and "support your mate, and the game will support you"!
Strikers - your Coaches and parents are proud of your sportsmanship, team spirit and growth as cricketers and humans this season - we are your biggest fans! Kids' joke to finish:
Q: Why did the cricketers never sweat?
A: They were surrounded by fans
