Stage 1 Friday
Marist Hurricanes
Marist Thunder (189) defeated Marist Hurricanes (110)
This week’s match between the Hurricanes and the Thunders took place on an exceptionally warm evening at the Hughes oval. With the Hurricanes winning the toss they chose to bowl first hoping the early evening heat may dampen the Thunder’s drive to chase early runs.
Austin Faulkes bowled first for the Hurricanes with the Thunders only scoring 5 singles in the first over. This form continued through to the 8th over where the Thunders only managed an average of 6 runs an over. However, the Thunders luck dramatically changed with the appearance of Jonathan Damianakis who managed to find the boundary on 8 separate occasions. After 20 overs, this helped the Thunders finish on 189 runs.
Following dinner, the Hurricanes took to the crease and their early game didn’t disappoint. The combination of Duffy, Woodford and Fatnowna ensured they exceeded the Thunder’s run rate up to the 8th over reaching 88 by the final pair of batters. Both Davies and Dahivalkar, took some impressive risks running singles in the last 4 overs managing to add over 20 runs to the Hurricane’s score; reaching a total of 110 runs by the 20th over.
Although the Thunders won by 79 runs both teams showed great sportsmanship, enthusiasm, and developed their cricket skills throughout the game.gv
