STAGE 1 MATCH SUMMARY

Stage 1 Div 1

Marist Sky

Marist Sky 185 defeated YDCC Warriors 72

Bowling first on a glorious Spring morning at Pearce Oval, the Marist Stage 1 Sky team kept it tight to restrict Yering Warriors to a modest total.

The Marist fielding remained sharp throughout the innings, backed up by great encouragement for one another led by captain Henry Caboche.

Oli Kumarasinge proved himself safe as houses behind the wicket.

Our boys then backed up with a brilliant batting effort by all, with Hardy Norton-Knight providing some mid-innings fireworks to smash a walk-off, first ever six, and Kaveer Rohatgi achoring the run chase top scoring with a stylish 29.

Stage 1 Div 1

Marist Sky

Marist Sky (216) defeated TVJCC Cobras (124)

Marist Sky faced Tuggeranong in challenging conditions early on, losing the toss and being sent in to bat on a wet wicket and outfield. Despite the damp surface, the batting lineup showed composure and intent from the outset. The team raced to 100 runs in the first ten overs, laying a strong foundation for a competitive total. Every player contributed valuable runs, ensuring the innings remained solid throughout.

The standout batting performances came from Henry and Kaveer, who both played with flair and aggression, each scoring 31 runs off just 15 balls. Their quick-fire knocks added crucial momentum and kept the scoreboard ticking.

With the ball, Marist Sky’s attack was neat and disciplined. Hardy and Danny led the charge, claiming multiple wickets through pinpoint accuracy and pace. Their efforts were backed up by tight, committed fielding across the park. The team worked tirelessly to restrict Tuggeranong’s scoring opportunities, cutting off boundaries and forcing them to rely on singles and running between the wickets.

Ultimately, this was a true team effort. Contributions came from every player—whether with bat, ball, or in the field—and together they secured a well-deserved victory. As captain, it was a proud moment to lead such a united and determined side.

Stage 1 Div 1

Marist Royal

Marist Royal (234) defeated Canberra Gramar (120)

Marist set the tone early with a terrific batting display, cruising to 190 from 20 overs for the loss of just two wickets and putting Grammar under real pressure from the start. Opening the innings, Ethan Parry lit things up with a blazing 33 from 17 balls, cracking 7 boundaries and immediately putting the bowlers on notice. Once Ethan retired, the momentum didn’t slow, skipper Ben Van de Meeberg took over in the middle order with a fluent 25 off 17, finding gaps, running hard and keeping the scoreboard moving.

Around them, Conor Casey, Oliver Henry and Lewis Fillbrook all played smart supporting roles, rotating the strike and making sure Marist stayed in control of the innings. The finishing touch came from Tom Jenkins and Sam Bullock, who walked out with licence to play and did exactly that. Both finished unbeaten on 22, keeping the tempo high right through to the final over and pushing the total to a very imposing 190.

With such a strong score on the board, Marist took the field with plenty of confidence, and backed it up with a disciplined, team-first bowling effort. They claimed 7 wickets in total, with Ben leading the way with two and Tom, Conor, Ollie, Ethan and Sam all chipping in with one each. The bowlers kept things tight, mixed up their pace and lengths, and never really let Grammar get comfortable.

The fielders were just as impressive. Marist held four catches, one each to Conor, Lewis, Ollie and Ethan; and turned the screws with four run outs, including a busy day for Sam with three and another to Ethan. The energy in the field, sharp communication and willingness to back each other up meant half-chances quickly turned into wickets.

All up, it was a commanding and enjoyable win: a powerful team performance with the bat, backed up by clever bowling and lively fielding. Lots of contributors, plenty of positives and a great platform for the rest of the season.

Marist Royal

Marist Royal 197 defeated TVJCC Cobras 99

Batting: Ethan Parry 28, Tom Jenkins 26

Bowling: Ethan Parry 2/8

Playing at Gordon against Tuggeranong, Marist won the toss and elected to bat first on a pretty slick wicket.

Marist’s batting was solid despite the slippery, tricky conditions and everyone did well just to get bat on ball. Ethan and Tom played their best innings for the year and the team set an impressive total for Tuggeranong to chase.

Marist had a strong bowling attack, it was a really disciplined bowling performance. Everyone had good line and nice full length which led to Ethan and Connor taking wickets and Lewis, Connor and Tom all bowling maiden overs.

Marist’s energy was up and it stayed up through the innings, this contributed to the best fielding performance of the year with run outs everywhere (a total of 6) - Sam and Tom each took a few run outs each.

It was a really solid performance and the boys should be very proud of themselves.

Stage 1 Div 1

Marist Royal

Weston Creek (174) def Marist Royal (145)

In the field, Conor Casey took an amazing caught and bowled and overall got 3 wickets. Wickets were also taken by Tom, Hayden and Ollie. Tom and Ollie were safe hands with the gloves, saving runs and helping to take wickets.

Special shout out to our fill ins Will and Hayden who contributed runs, wickets and energy!

Today was also a special milestone game for two players. Conor Casey hit 10 wickets and Ethan Parry marked 100 runs so far this season. Congrats boys!

Stage 1 Div 1

Marist Sky

Marist Sky (220) defeated Queanbeyan Blue (130)

On Saturday morning, Marist played Queanbeyan on a wet and damp field. Marist decided to bowl first. This meant Queanbeyan had to time and strike the ball harder for scoring runs.

As the first 10 overs went by, Queanbeyan had a steady start hitting multiple boundaries, but Marist kept bowling well. Harrison took three wickets, Henry and Harry followed it to keep the pressure on. Marist’s fielding was strong especially Ollie’s throw running from the point and hitting the stumps directly resulting in a run out.

When it was Marist’s turn to bat, Queanbeyan set off taking a wicket on the first ball of the second innings. Hardy and Neil motivated each other and kept the momentum going.

Daniel and Henry came in, held their nerves well and hit shots around the field making the fielders run hard. But Queanbeyan were positive, came back hard taking 2 valuable wickets before the drinks break.

The next 10 overs, Harrison and I didn’t loose a wicket adding 50 runs partnership. The last 5 overs, rain hit us again. Harry and Ollie kept the chatter and were well focussed scoring some fast runs.

In the end, Marist finished strongly and won the game. As a captain, it was a proud moment and looking forward to have fun and working hard for the rest of the season.

Stage 1 Div 1

Marist Royal

Marist S1 Div 1 Royal (171) defeated Norths NCGCC U11 (68)

On a crisp, dewy Saturday morning, Marist’s captain Conor Casey won the toss and wisely elected to bowl first, capitalising on the wet outfield. Norths were bundled out for a modest 68 runs, owing much to a disciplined Marist bowling attack. A special mention must go to Benjamin Van de Meeberg, whose figures of 3 wickets for just 3 runs off 3 overswere nothing short of superb. In the field, Lewis Fillbrook pulled off a stunning catch that drew gasps from spectators and lifted the team’s energy.

In reply, Marist’s batting line-up delivered with confidence and flair. The boys combined patience with aggression to post a total of 171 runs, sealing a comfortable win. Every batter chipped in with contributions, but standout batting honours go to Ethan, who smashed several huge boundaries that left the bowlers scrambling — he almost hit the stitches off the ball at times!

This result sets a strong early tone for Marist Royal in the Stage 1 competition. The bowlers showed real control under pressure, and the batters backed them up with intent. As we look ahead, keeping that balance between discipline and confidence will be key. Well done to all the boys — enjoy the win and bring that momentum into next weekend’s fixture!

Game day began with a fitting tribute for Ben Austin as the boys paused for a minutes silence.

The game soon got underway with strong batting displays across the Royal team and big improvements in running between the wickets and decisive calling. The straight drives and cover drives on display were a pleasure for all to witness! The boys soon amassed a formidable total of 184 runs and went into the break with their heads held high.

In contrast, the bowling innings did not start as well for the team with the Condors reaching 100 runs off the first 10 overseas. The next ten overs showed what this team is capable of as the boys put on a bowling and fielding display for the ages to restrict the Condors to 132 (including a hat-trick ball for Connor).

The game was a test of the teams resilience and showed effort, determination and encouragement when it mattered most.

Summary:

The Royals took on Queanbeyan on a brisk, overcast morning at Gowrie Oval. Captain Ollie won the bat flip and elected to bowl.

The boys held a very disciplined line and length in the first ten overs with Lewis (2/14) getting things rolling by striking twice in his first over, followed by Conor (2/16) who was amongst the wickets once again. The fielding was sharp throughout with Tom picking up his 5th and 6th direct hit run-out for the season - a great effort - and Ollie had another good day with the gloves with some excellent takes down leg side. After the break the boys kept the runs in check, including holding Queanbeyan's best batter to his lowest score of the season, and restricted them to 105 off their 20 overs.

Conor (21) and Ben (23) opened the batting and got the Royals off to a flyer, hitting four boundaries each and running hard between the wickets for a 50 run partnership. Ethan carried on that momentum with a belligerent 34 including seven boundaries. Ollie and Lewis kept the runs ticking over throughout the middle before Tom (28) played his best innings to date with some great controlled hitting. Our innings was bookended by a confident 19 from Lachie who filled in for us this week.

It was another consistent performance across the board from the Royals who are building into the season nicely.

Marist Navy played very well in their first match of the season. As a newly formed team, they worked out their strengths in the field and used this to their advantage. The support shown through the team was encouraging and reflected the energy and motivation they had to play well. The whole team displayed their talents, whether it was with the bat or the ball.

Playing a very strong opposition, especially in the field, Marist Navy fought hard to the end. It only came down to a few runs, but unfortunately, they succumbed to the loss in a very dramatic last over.

What an exciting season ahead we have to look forward to!

Marist Navy (107) defeated by Eastlake Kookaburras (135)

Batting: James Kimpton 16; Liam Davies 13

Bowling: Liam Davies 3/10 (3); Sebastian Honan 1/8 (2)

After winning the tosss once again Navy decided to bat. They entered the field confident facing some extremely good bowling, one player getting a hat trick. They did well to defend their crease and took advantage of some sneaky runs. The tale order lifted the teams score with some great batting by Liam and Jamie. The weather was not going to hold the boys back. Intermittent showers did not stop play and they were keen to get into the field. The team did a good job in the field with some great wickets, catches and a run out. Unfortunately, not enough wickets were taken by Marist to compete with he total wickets taken from Eastlake. Even with some very tight and tidy bowling, the team just could not get over the line. However, considering the weather, everyone was grateful to be able to play this weekend.

Stage 1 Div 2

Marist Navy

Marist Navy 114 defeated by ANU Gold 121

Batting: Freddie Nisbett 11(17)

Bowling: William Blunt 2/12 (3)

Before the game began, both teams came together in solidarity to honour Ben Austin. It was wholesome to see both teams forming a circle in his memory.

After wining the toss, Navy chose to bat first hoping this change in game tactic will help the final result. The batters took their time to find a groove against some very fast and accurate bowling. However, the boys held their ground and maintained a consistent run rate with some great running between the wickets.

The second innings saw some wonderful fielding from Navy. They showed some great skills by communicating with each other, backing up and run outs from direct hits at the stumps. They were able to keep the oppositions run rate to a minimum with accurate bowling. Navy started showing signs of being able to read the game and listen more to each other in the field. Once again, wonderful sportsmanship was displayed towards the other team.

Once again, it came down to a very close game with Navy unfortunately losing again by only a few runs. However, it is not diminishing their spirits in the slightest.

Stage 1 Div 2

Marist Navy

Marist Navy (178) defeated GJCC - Tasmanian Tigers (126)

Batting: William Blunt 30 (17) and Sebastian Honan 22 (17)

Bowling: Xander Woods 0/2 (2) and Sebastian Honan 1/9 (3)

Marist Navy batted first, with William and Remy opening the batting. Two fours were hit off the first two balls. This opened up a wonderful innings, with the boys having a great time with the bat. 17 fours and 1 six were hit, which made running between the wickets a little easier. However, when they did have to run, communication between the teammates was an improvement from previous games. The boys did a wonderful job.

Marist Navy went into bowl and showed some great skill in the field. Their bowling was on target, and their backing up in the field allowed them to slow down the opposition's run score. Several wickets were taken, with special mention to Remy Martin for taking his first wicket this season in Div 2. The boys fielded well with several run outs, working together to increase their total.

A special mention goes to Jasper Dixon for stepping up very last minute to help out the Navy team. His performance certainly did not go unnoticed. His turn with the bat added a brilliant knock of 21 to the team total, and a wicket in the field.

Well done, Navy, on a great result! Let's keep it going.

Stage 1 Div 2

Marist Navy

Marist Navy 140 defeated by Eastlake Wedgetails 155

Batting: Freddie Nisbett 16 (17) and Evan Lawrence 15 (17)

Bowling: Freddie Nisbett 2/28 (3)

Navy, once again, won the toss and chose to bat. Runs were tricky to get facing the Eastlake bowlers. The boys did well facing the opposition. There were some dicey moments out in the crease with some tight, almost run out calls. The boys needing to communicate with each other, especially when trying to sneak a single. A great effort by Freddie and Evan as they worked well together, acheiveing a great result and adding runs to the total with their partnership.

The boys were keen to hit the field for the next innings. Some tight bowling and good fielding to start kept the run rate down at the beginning. Unfortunately, Navy let the innings get the better of them, allowing some mishaps in the field to occur, creating unnecessary runs from over throws. A special mention for effort in the field goes to Freddie for a great spell with the ball. Also, Xander for the most spectacular run out. Directly hitting the stumps from mid field was a sight to see and created a lot of excitement amongst the team.

Marist Scorchers lost to SEC White. Although we fell short, our Marist Scorchers showed incredible spirit and determination. We scored 124 runs in 20 overs, and every single player contributed to the total. SEC White proved too strong, chasing down the target with ease. For many of the Scorchers, this was not only their first match of the season, but their first ever game of cricket — and they rose to the occasion brilliantly.

From the opening overs, the Scorchers showed great energy in the field and strong teamwork throughout. There were plenty of milestone moments to celebrate — first wickets, first runs, first catches and even first boundaries — making it an entertaining night for players and supporters alike.

The team followed that with an excellent performance with the ball, restricting CGS to 56 off the bat. Jasper picked up two wickets, with Lachlan and Rhys also getting a wicket.

Everyone bowled and fielded well, with Lawrence swinging it through the air and Sam and Ollie also proving very hard to play.

Marist Hurricanes (133) defeated Marist Strikers (124)

It was a warm November evening when the Marist Hurricanes took on the Marist Strikers in the jewel of the Tuggeranong valley, Kambah. Families and flies gathered to watch the boys play, unfortunately flies outnumbered spectators fifty to one. The Hurricanes welcomed Oliver to the team for his first ever game of cricket.

The Hurricanes lost the toss and according to captain Kiaan, “still got what we wanted and batted (first)”. All boys batted well, with Noah hitting a brilliant 4 in the sixth over. Dinner of pizza and garlic bread sustained the boys before going in to the second innings to bowl.

Carb loaded, the boys pulled out a spectacular number of wickets and runs outs. Kabeesh was on fire with two wickets and 3 run outs, followed by Kanoa with one wicket and one run out. Oliver, Fletcher, Kiaan and Harry all pitched in getting one wicket each with Luca and Austin getting Jonty Rhodes-esque run outs.

Well done to all the boys and keep it up. ‘It was a great day for the Hurricanes, a great day for Marist College and a great day for the world.’ (Paraphrased Bill Lawry, 12th Man)

It was a cracker of a Friday! The sun was shining nicely over Hughes Oval, and all the players arrived excited, smiling, and ready for a great game of cricket.

The Hurricanes won the toss and decided to send the Scorchers in to bat first on the warm evening. Pranav and Johan opened the batting, looking confident. The bowlers kept the pressure on, and the score moved slowly at first with a few no-balls and byes, but both boys did well to protect their wickets.

Then came Austin and Hayden, who built a strong partnership together. They ran hard between the wickets and found some lovely shots. Hayden really lit up the field, hitting 5 beautiful boundaries! The Hurricanes’ fielders had to sprint all over the ground trying to stop the ball. Hayden batted with great focus and finished not out on 27 runs. A top performance!

Bowling Time!

The Scorchers were fired up. On the very first ball, they took a wicket! The team stayed energetic and kept hunting for wickets throughout the Hurricanes’ innings.

After his strong batting performance, Hayden came in to bowl and continued his magic—taking important wickets and keeping the batters guessing.

The Scorchers’ fielding was tight and sharp. They stopped boundaries, backed each other up, and made it hard for the Hurricanes to score. The pressure continued to build, and it became very tough for the Hurricanes to chase down the target.

Final Result

The Scorchers won the match by 13 runs! 🏆
What an exciting game from start to finish.

Marist Strikers

Queanbeyan defeated Marist Strikers

This week saw the Strikers take on Queanbeyan. The week started with training in the wet. Junior coaches Nate and Jack focussed the team on fielding skills and running between the wickets; and it showed during the game!

Friday brought the threat of rain just prior to the first ball, but the weather managed to stay dry and the Strikers batted first. The team batted well, putting their training into practice and scoring quick singles off the leg byes and overthrows when they were there. This urgency was a solid improvement and shows the team cohesion is getting stronger.

In the field the Strikers had some very good bowling. This was supported by their backing up at the wickets which brought a special mention from the coaches. Three games into the season and the team is demonstrating their willingness to support each other and act on the feedback they are given.

A huge thanks to Andy for scoring, and Katie for preparing a formidable meal of slow cooked meatballs and salad. And the appearance.of a sushi platter from Owens family was well received too!

Lastly, congratulations to James Rae on being the Player of the Week for Strikers. All the boys are making it hard on the coaches to pick!

On the bowling front, Kabeesh delivered two perfect wickets straight down the middle, and Kiaan followed up with two more after an energetic run-up—despite his shoes flying off during his inspirational fielding! Harry stood out as an exceptional wicketkeeper, and Fletcher’s brilliant delivery led to a crucial run-out that sealed the victory.

It was a game full of energy, teamwork, and determination. After a strong win, the boys are looking forward to an exciting season ahead!

Thankfully the rain held off for Friday night's third game of the season. As we came into the 2nd innings the clouds parted and it turned into a lovely warm evening of cricket. It always makes for a bit of fun when two Marist teams take each other on. Unfortunately, it was a hard night for the Scorchers, down 3 players, but the 6 players on the field put in their all against a strong Marist Heat team at Hughes Oval.

There were some great moments of play as the Scorchers continued to find their rhythm. It is lovely to see the team coming together each week across the year 4 and year 3 cohorts. The boys supported each other well in the field with some scrambling attempts at run outs. Hayden Carolan is proving to be a very handy all-rounder taking a screamer of a catch in slips, and perfecting his batting and bowling each week.

Thank you to the Marist Heat team and parents. There was some great banter and a chill Friday night playlist keeping us going on the sidelines, as well as the offering of a BBQ cookup at the end. Some great community spirit on display! As always, thanks go to our parent coach, Jarod, student assistant coaches, Jared and Finn, and all the parent volunteers for their help with set up, scoring and umpiring. Onwards and upwards boys!

The Sixers, though ultimately defeated, battled hard against a relentless batting side that benefited immensely from a historically high count of opposition extras.

The final score saw the Marist Stars post a huge total of 162 runs to the Sixers' 114. However, a closer look at the Marist Stars' innings highlights the Sixers' persistence in the face of immense pressure

🌟 Sixers Bowlers Show Glimmers of Promise

The Sixers' bowling unit showed moments of brilliance that prevented the Stars' total from ballooning even further. Early wickets were crucial in stemming the flow of run-scoring from the bat, keeping the home side's target within reach for a substantial period.

Thomas Szivek and Henry Woods stood out in the early middle overs. Szivek claimed a vital wicket in the 2nd over, bowling out a top-order batter, and Woods later claimed the wicket of juan jacob georgein the 9th over, halting a dangerous partnership.

While the scorecard was inflated by an unusual amount of no-balls and wides conceded across the attack, the Sixers' bowlers continued to apply pressure by forcing dot balls and capitalizing on rare run-out opportunities. Many of the Stars' batters found themselves unable to score off the bat, highlighting periods of successful containment by the Sixers' quicks.

⚔️ Batting Battle for the Sixers

Chasing 163, the Marist Sixers' batting line-up faced a Herculean task against the high required run rate. Although early wickets pegged them back, the side showed determination to bat out the 20 overs and accumulate runs where possible.

Opener Daniel Malan showed early intent with a boundary in the 4th over and scoring four runs in the 2nd over, providing a brief spark. While unable to form the big partnerships required, the Sixers' batters focused on occupying the crease and utilizing the field to their advantage, ensuring the entire 20-over allocation was played out. Reaching a total of 114 runs under the circumstances proves the team did not surrender, maintaining a competitive spirit until the final ball.

The Marist Sixers - S1 can take pride in their persistence and their ability to keep the opposition in check during several key phases of the game.

It was an innings marked by teamwork and growing maturity at the crease, with contributions across the batting order.

The Strikers began their chase with real determination, scoring freely despite enthusiastic pressure from the Scorchers in the field. However, the energy of the team never dropped, and their persistence was rewarded after the drinks break.

A remarkable four-over stretch saw the Scorchers claim five wickets, shifting the momentum dramatically. What made the performance particularly special was the collective contribution from every player.

Each member of the team claimed wicket, a catch, or a run-out to help secure the Scorchers’ second win of the season. Their support for one another, commitment in the field, and growing understanding as a team were clear to see, making this victory both well deserved and highly encouraging for the second-half of the season.

Marist Strikers

Marist Strikers (6/75) defeated by CGS Navy (4/113)

Batting: Doug Pirie 12* (incl 1 boundary & strike rate of 70+), Jack Naylor and James Rae both 3*

Bowling: Owen Slater 2/18 (4), Jack Naylor 1/5 (3) including 1 maiden, James Pike 1/18 (3)

Notable Player: Man of the match went to James P for his all round great performance including calling and running between the wickets.

Game Summary

The Strikers arrived with great enthusiasm to kick off their season at the well manicured CGS junior field. Student coaches Jack & Nate rallied the lads with fun warm up activities and an encouraging pep talk including explanation of field positions & game plan with support from parent coach Geoff. CGS won the toss and elected to bat giving us the welcome chance to bond in the field.

Being alert, chasing hard and even some backing up between teammates were admired from the sidelines. Special mention to Alfie Schneider for bravely opening the bowling and his excellent commitment to running and diving in the field. Owen struck first in the 3rd over supported with a super catch at cover by James Gooley and then again in the 9th thanks to Doug's classy stumping when 1st WK (he made it look like the opposition had fallen briefly asleep...) James P and Jack N both rattled the stumps for their wickets (what a glorious sound and sight!)

Welcome drinks and snacks at innings break refreshed the Strikers to face our batting innings with determination and a spirit of fun against our more experienced opposition. Runs were hard to come by with CGS' tight bowling and fielding, combined with many Strikers still to learn about the protocols of calling, running between the wickets and batting partnerships - they did a great job! Doug entertained us with some big hits and a well deserved boundary (probably worth more as we reckon the field markers were set long!)

Hard to believe it was the 1st cricket game for majority of the team - they displayed admirable sportsmanship, unity and spirit which makes for a promising and enjoyable season ahead, together with such a lovely group of supportive parents willing to help contribute each week. Many thanks to Manager Katie for all her time and effort to organise and set us up so well from the start!

To finish, some inspiration from the Great Don Bradman himself, "Champions keep playing until they get it right" which complements the mission of the Strikers to have fun learning together in an encouraging, positive team environment to grow as people and cricketers.

This is a note to say how proud we are of the boys.

The team spirit was outstanding—every single boy participated well and genuinely encouraged each other throughout the game. It was brilliant to see our current Year 4s playing alongside the Year 3 boys (our future Marist students). They are all clearly loving the chance to represent Marist and forge new friendships!

Jarad's bowling skills was exceptional and Cruz taking a wicket was great to watch.

A thank you to Shane for his over-supply of pizzas and drinks. The kids had an absolute blast and finished the day positive.

Stage 1 Friday

Marist Strikers

TVJCC Kookas Def Marist Strikers 90

The Strikers headed to the deep south of Gordon on Friday evening, taking in the scenic Brindabellas and arriving just in time to face the quickest bowler they’ve seen all season. Think junior Bumrah, but with even more enthusiasm. The opening bats James G and Alfie did well to hold strong in front of their stumps and settle into the innings.

Runs were tight early, but James R. and Tex Ferrari combined for an excellent last wicket partnership ensuring the strikers post a competitive total. Sharp calling, smart singles, and calm communication kept the scoreboard moving — with Ferrari capitalising on a couple of Tuggeranong misfields to finish as top scorer along with Doug and James R.

Tuggeranong began their chase with real intent, punishing anything loose. Marist responded by tightening the bowling after the drinks break and lifting their discipline in the field. Slater showed continued improvement with his bowling action, supported by the strikers strong energy in the field.

A special mention to Jack N, who delivered a standout all-round fielding performance: two run-outs and a catch and a wicket, earning him Man of the Match. A massive contribution and a genuine lift for the side.

A solid performance overall and another positive step forward for the Strikers. Special mention to the entire team for putting there hands up and helping out Tuggies in the field continuing to show the Strikers strong spirit and teamwork.

Stage 1 Friday

Marist Scorchers

Marist Scorchers (101) defeated by Marist Sixers (111)

On a cold, cloudy afternoon with no sunshine in sight, the Marist Scorchers showed something far more important than perfect cricket conditions, they showed what a tight, supportive group of friends they are. Their energy, teamwork, and encouragement for one another made the game feel warm despite the chilly day.

Chasing 111, the Scorchers approached the innings with a great sense of togetherness.

· Hayden Carolan led the way with a confident 11 off 13, and his teammates backed him in with plenty of cheers.

· Johan Midhun, Austin Gilmartin, and Otto Nevalainen each contributed 3 runs, supporting each other between overs and keeping spirits high.

· Pranav Karthik Nair, staying not out on 6, showed calm leadership and encouraged his batting partners throughout.

· Jimmy Underhill played his part with 2 runs, showing good focus at the crease.

· Reuben Paynter and Thomas Moody added steady late runs, helped along by constant positive talk from the whole team.

With 66 extras boosting the total, the Scorchers stayed close — but what mattered most was how they communicated, supported each other, and batted as mates.

Even in the cold, the Scorchers bowled with genuine enthusiasm, celebrating each other’s efforts.

· Pranav Karthik Nair led with 2 wickets, and every breakthrough was met with high fives and smiles.

· Reuben Paynter bowled an excellent spell (only 13 runs in 3 overs) and had lots of backing from his teammates in the field.

· Johan Midhun and Thomas Moody delivered steady overs, encouraged every ball by friends around them.

· No matter what happened — boundaries, wides, wickets — the Scorchers kept each other positive.

· And in the field, Otto Nevalainen  and Johnan Midhun were the team’s wicketkeepers, doing a strong job behind the stumps — staying focused, backing up bowlers, and keeping the energy high with their teammates throughout the innings.

The Scorchers finished on 101, just 10 runs short, but the result doesn’t tell the full story.  This supportive attitude is a huge part of what makes the team so special. What stood out most was:

· the encouragement between teammates,

· the way players supported each other’s successes,

· how mistakes were shrugged off quickly,

· and how everyone stayed upbeat together on a cold day.

This is a group that clearly enjoys playing together, trusts one another, and genuinely likes being a team.  And that kind of bond almost always leads to strong performances — and eventually, wins.

Another victory is just over the horizon for the Scorchers — but more importantly, at their young age, the guidance of Jared, Finn, and Coach Gilmartin has already made them winners in friendship, teamwork, and resilience every single week.
