Willow Talk #4 - week ending 9th November

Stage 2 Div 3

Marist Cobalt

Marist Cobalt (4/100) defeated BAS Hawks (8/98)

Batting: Alex Moore 51*, Saxon Owens-McVie 13*

Bolwing: Ari Richardson: 3 overs, 2 wickets, 6 runs

Summary:

This week, Marist Cobalt travelled to Gungahlin to take on the BAS Hawks on their home turf.

The Hawks began steadily, helped along by a couple of early chances that slipped through the fingers—literally. But the boys bounced back with some sharp fielding, snatching two slick run outs to swing momentum back our way. Despite tight bowling throughout the innings, the Hawks managed to bat out their full 30 overs. Ari delivered a cracking final over, taking two wickets, one of which featured a lightning-fast stumping from Henry that would make any keeper proud. The team held the home side to a modest 99 runs—a solid effort in blustery conditions.

The chase began with a few ambitious swings seemingly aimed at knocking Starlink satellites out of orbit. With the wind swirling and the Hawks bowling tightly, Marist found themselves wobbling at 4/20 in the 7th over. Enter Saxon and Alex, who calmly steadied the ship.

Whatever was in Alex’s water bottle at the drinks break deserves a patent—he exploded out of the blocks, smashing 17 runs in a single over, including four boundaries! He brought up his 50 in style with another four in the 18th over, and Saxon sealed the win with a cool single just a few balls later.

All in all, a thoroughly entertaining match and a comfortable win for the Marist boys—plenty to smile about and a few highlights for the season reel.
