Marist Cricket Families,

Welcome to the new season and welcome back to Willow Talk. Our team have worked tirelessly to get the publication working and we apologise for the initial delay. Thanks to Pritesh, Kellie, Penny and Richard for leading the transition to this season's editions. We have demonstrated what an essential role Wayne has played for 25 years, but also, that we can transition from Waynes World to the new world of WT and social media.  Welcome to Kimberley who has taken over from Lynn in our social media posts.  Really great reading Kimberley's round ups. Still loving Wayne's photos though.

I wanted to reflect on and recognise a massive effort by our families in what was another cracking pre-season. Thanks to everyone who contributed to grading, supporting Murray, Rachael, Jen and Liam in their work. Thanks to all those who supported Scott in our season opener. Well done to Phil M and everyone who hosted the Adam's Academy visit, and First XI trial with a CACT U19s team. It was great that so many coaches and managers made the effort with our C&M night. Thanks to Smeds and Phil M for contributing to coaching our coaches, at the adult and student coach level. A special mention to our student coaches who helped in the pre-season and those who are coaching teams across the season. Our junior players really benefit from the effort, and our opponents are envious of the commitment our senior players make. Firsts and Seconds will play a one-dayer at school on Friday 28/11, as a hit out before Firsts head off for carnival the following week.  We will be right behind them as they take on Marist teams from around Australia. We thank our school support and grounds staff for their efforts - the grounds look excellent. There are many folks who I haven't mentioned, but appreciate everything you do to make our matches happen.

We have all acknowledged the tragic loss of junior cricketer Ben Austin, from the Ferntree Gully club in Melbourne, in a cricket training accident. Thank you to all our teams who sensitively marked this awful occurence and to Chris, our secretary who led our club-wide response. CACT and MCCCC await the findings of the Cricket Australia investigation into the incident to learn of any recommendations we might adopt for our training and match practices. Please vigilantly maintain the safety first and always approach in our teams. There has been some fantastic cricket played in the first few rounds of the season as our WT articles show. Well done to our players and teams. Training around the club looks sharp and enthusiastic. No train, no gain. Lets keep our standards high and eyes on the prize - competitive matches played in great spirit. As we do, we will continue to have hundreds of great stories to tell over the course of the season.

At last, well done to Sachin W, Walshy, Josh and Nathan into thier CACT U19 team selections. Can all our family please keep us up to date on all our rep team honours and performances.
