Stage 3 - Division 2
Marist Cobalt
Marist Cobalt (7/137) defeated by Marist Steele (8/174)
Batting: Flynn Hurley 30 (28), Lucas Clifford 21 (rtno)
Bowling: Will Charles 2/18, Isaac Sladic 1/9,
Notable player: Jonathan Abraham for his smashing six, one wicket, one catch, earning Cobalt Man of the Match.
Team Cobalt vs Team Steele, an all Marist affair - Steele won the toss and elected to bat. The Cobalt team were happy to take the field on the cooler morning to allow the ground time to dry out from the overnight rain. Will Charles was nominated team captain for the match and quickly got his bowling line up underway. Things were looking good with three early wickets, however, our bowling efforts seemed to become arduous and Steele's endurance and running between the wickets was quietly nudging the score up and up. Cobalt are a strong fielding side, lots of positive banter, accuracy and speed is a treat for their best supports (their parents) to watch.
Steele set an impressive total of 174, achievable, but the chase was going to require dedication at the crease, smart and sensible calling between wickets and a sprinkling of good luck! Cobalt team have been known to chase down a win and opening batsman Flynn Hurley gave the team a strong start. Lucas Clifford retired (not out) with 21 runs, steadying the middle order. The batsmen were impressive, however equally impressive was Steele's grit and fight for the win and that they did. Unfortunately we ran out of overs and the win went to Steele.
A special mention to an old team mate Josh Moody, who stepped in at late notice. Josh added nine runs (not out) to the tally.
Each team expensive with extras always plays part in the total, and therefore the run chase. Not our win but great sportsmanship against school mates.
