Willow Talk #9 - week ending 14th December

Stage 2 Div 1

Marist Royal

Marist Royal (6/217) defeated CGS Navy (8/185)

Another great team performance to finish the first half of the season.

Congratulations to Will and Chip for scoring 50s with some clean power hitting to get the team score to a whopping 217, ably supported by Ned with an elegant 44 not out. The boys made good use of the fields downhill slope!

CGS Navy attacked the total with gusto, steadily chipping away at the target without losing many wickets. The Royals rallied after the drinks break with great efforts with the ball and in the field, including some impressive catches and committed boundary fielding. In particular, Tom and Chip came on and dried up the runs, then picked up key wickets to turn the game back in our favour, with Harry also picking up 2 wickets in his last game for the team. An impressive win from a team growing in confidence and maturity.

The team bid a sad farewell to Harry, an excellent young cricketer who has made a great contribution to the team across all aspects of the game. We also farewell and thank Jen and Mike for the umpiring, scoring and snacks, and for the huge amount of work that Jen has put into her coordination role for Marist cricket. Our loss is definitely Brisbane’s gain
