Stage 3 - Division 1
Marist Royal
Marist Royal (7/119) defeated GJCC (7/118)
Batting: Keyaan Darji 34*
Bowling: Lachlan Miller 2/23
Fielding: Archie Brown 2 catches, 2 stumpings
After a series of storms and an unpredictable forecast, we were pleasantly surprised that Saturday’s match was still on. The conditions were challenging, but the boys were ready to take on whatever came their way.
We lost the toss and were sent into the field, but the bowlers were up for the task. The opening spell was tight and disciplined, with no room for the batters to get comfortable. However, it wasn’t until the 10th over that the first breakthrough arrived, courtesy of some brilliant fielding by Ben Callaway. It was good weather for ducks, as mutiple batters were sent back, leaving Lachie Miller stranded on a hat-trick. GJCC's innings ended at 7/118 — a target that seemed achievable, or so we thought...
Marist's reply started with a bang, as Nick Brennan launched a massive six. However, disaster struck two balls later, with Brennan getting out. Much like in the first innings, the bowlers were in control, and ducks began to pile up — 7 in total for the match.
The turning point came when Harry Whalen joined Keyann Darji at the crease. Together, they steadied the ship and shifted the momentum back in our favour. Their solid partnership brought confidence back to the team, and from that point onward, it was smooth sailing.
Ben and Lachie were there to finish the job, guiding the team to a comfortable win against quality opposition.
Next up, we face Radford, where we’ll be hoping for Lachie to complete his hat-trick. The boys are enjoying their cricket, and are all looking forward to the next challenge.
Thanks to CK for scoring, Mark for umpiring and a special shoutout to Lucas Clark for filling-in this week.
